In the video, we can witness an incredible transformation of a sleek red BMW into a life-sized robot that is capable of standing tall and towering over its surroundings. The vehicle’s side panels smoothly slide outwards and the chassis lifts up on legs, giving it a robotic appearance. As the transformation progresses, the car’s “head” emerges with a whirring sound reminiscent of Autobot Optimus Prime. The Letrons BMW prototype is controlled remotely and serves as a gigantic toy for now. Its creators, the Turkish company Antimon, have designed the unit for a full robot transformation, as explained on their website.
Letrons has taken inspiration from a sporty BMW to create its own Transformer, fulfilling the childhood dreams of many who grew up in the 1980s. The Transformer is impressive – it comes complete with arms, legs and a moveable neck, and was built by a team of 12 engineers in Ankara. Four models are available – Bizmut, Argon, Wolfram, and Tanta – each boasting a head that can turn 120 degrees, a motorised hydraulic control system capable of lifting the car up on its ‘legs’, a sound system, HD LCD, WiFi technology, and even moving arms and lights. Reactive cameras allow for speech and movement capabilities, making these cars truly one-of-a-kind.
According to Letrons, a group of 12 engineers worked together to create this amazing invention that involved the use of hydraulics for the transformation process. While the robot cannot walk at the moment, the creators are willing to improve this feature if necessary. They also stated that they would only sell the robots to buyers who meet the criteria set by their team. However, they also mentioned that the robot is not suitable for driving on the road yet.
